| The Intensive Course in Programming
and Application of Electronic Computers is offered by the Applied Statistics
Unit from time to time, usually during October-December. There has been
33 sessions of this course so far.
Objective and
scope
The objective of this course is to
impart a thorough knowledge of systems and programming work in connection
with the use of electronic digital computers. It is a full-time course
comprising lectures, demonstrations, directed reading and practical assignments.
The training is of a general nature and not restricted to the particular
system of machines available in the institute.
Duration and class
hours
The duration of the course is 10 weeks.
Classes are usually held during the day between 10:00 and 17:00 hours.
Depending on the availability of the computer system, some practical classes
are scheduled in the morning and evening hours as well.
Eligibility
Persons who have a good academic record,
preferably with knowledge of mathematics up to the graduate level, and
are currently engaged in research and/or related activities are eligible
for admission to the course.
Selection Process
The announcement for the course is
sent to various organisations along with an application proforma. Every
applicant is required to be sponsored by the Head of the concerned organisation.
A course fee of Rs. 1500/- is charged. The selection of participants in
the course is done on the basis of these applications.
Course structure
The course covers Fundamentals of Digital
Electronic Computers, Conventional Computing Equipment and Programming
in a High Level Language. The course structure is currently under review.
