Homepage of Malay Bhattacharyya
Malay Bhattacharyya is currently a Ph.D. scholar at the Machine Intelligence Unit of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India. He did his B. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Berhampore, India in 2005 and M. E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2007.
Malay encompasses the broad domains of graph theory, soft computing, computational biology, and bioinformatics in his research. There are about twenty research publications to his credit in various peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and proceedings of international conferences. He serves as a regular reviewer for a number of reputed journals and international conferences and participates in the editorial activities of a few of them. He is a member of IAENG, ACM, IEEE, and Bioinformatics Organization. He is an editorial board member of XRDS (formally Crossroads) - The ACM Magazine for Students since January 2009.
The favorite pastimes of Malay are sketching and writing songs.
He is working under the guidance of Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay.
Thesis focus: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to post-transcriptionally regulate mRNAs by degrading or inhibiting translation. Some of the topical studies strongly suggest that these short RNAs are responsible for many diseases. We are preparing a comprehensive framework of co-expression analysis to figure out co-expression, differential co-expression and co-expression dynamics within multiple phenotypes in expression profiles. The purpose is to locate disease-specific miRNAs. Alongside, we are analyzing the co-regulation of miRNAs through common regulating factors. We are conducting studies on schizophrenia neuropathology and on several types of cancers.
