Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, founder of the Indian Statistical Institute, applied different statistics of profile similarity.Mahalanobis Generalized Distance is one of them. The research unit has done several researches on profile similarity with respect to psychological and educational variables. In this training program, attention will be paid to profile similarity in career interests.
In Psychological researches, four types of profile similarity statistics are used to determine intra, inter individual, group and individual-group profile similarity. Profile similarity statistics is useful in Assessment centre, the process for assessing interest, ability, aptitude, personality through psychometric tools. In Total Quality Management (TQM), training and development, counselling and guidance, assessment centre plays important role. This training is part of the assessment centre concept. Assessment of Career interest is most important task of the Assessment Centres of different industrial and service organizations. Employee turnover, absenteeism, attrition, job stress increase in case of cross career interest. Therefore, interest profile mapping is useful.Job-career interest fit leads to develop intrinsic motivation in work. Like other psychological testing, in house assessment centre can use career interest data in personnel specification for recruitment, selection, man power planning, training, counselling and guidance. Each job has specific career interest profile as job task is multi-axial. Therefore, knowledge about profile similarity is important. This training focuses on 4 training objectives.
