The Centre offers a short-term (one semester) certificate course on the basics of Cryptology and Security for Government officers and scientists, who work in these areas. To earn the certificate, the participants of this course need to complete due coursework and/or work towards a major project and/or appear for end-of-term examinations (specific details and format may vary).

Format for Spring 2015

The project-based course is aimed at government officials and scientists working in the areas of Cryptology, Data Security and allied disciplines. The course is not residential, and the candidates may carry out the projects while working at their respective agencies/organisations with short visits to the Centre at Kolkata. The format of the course for Spring 2015 will be as follows.

Week 1 : 9 March - 13 March 2015 : Assignment of Projects and Mentors
Residence at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata will be required.
The first week of the program will primarily constitute of interactive sessions and technical discussions regarding topics of mutual interest to the participants and the faculty members. This will effectively match participants and mentors towards suitable course projects.
Week 2 to 15 : 16 March - 19 June 2015 : Completion of Course Projects
Short visits to Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata will be required.
The main 14 weeks of the program will require the participants to work on the assigned course projects, in collaboration with their mentors. Short visits to the Centre for interaction between the participants and mentors may be planned as per mutual convenience.
Week 16 : 22 June - 26 June 2015 : Course Presentations and Evaluation
Residence at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata will be required.
In the final week of the program, the participants will be required to submit a completion report and deliver a technical presentation summarising the work done in the project. The evaluation will be based on the report, the presentation, and a viva-voce examination.

Past Programs past

Three short-term certificate courses on Cryptology and Data Security have been organized during the last two academic years -- 2013-14 and 2014-15.

  • Fall 2013 : 19 August to 13 December 2013
  • Spring 2014 : 23 February to 13 June 2014
  • Fall 2014 : 4 August to 28 November 2014

The first course had 14 participants from SAG, DRDO, CAIR, DRDO, IB, DoT, WESEE, Ministry of Defence, the second course had 14 participants from SAG, DRDO, IB, Joint Cipher Bureau, DRDO, SI Directorate, and the third course had 7 participants from SAG, DRDO, IB, Joint Cipher Bureau, DRDO, CBI and Indian Navy.
