Announcement for RMO-2011

The Regional Mathematical Olympiad--2011 (RMO-2011) will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011.

The RMO in West Bengal is meant primarily for students of Class IX-XII studying in any school/college in West Bengal. As special cases, exceptionally talented students from Class VIII with very strong recommendations from the school may be allowed to appear at the discretion of the Regional Coordinator. At present, about 30-35 students are selected for the next step, the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), to be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012. At most six best students of Class XII are selected. Recipients of INMO Certificate of Merit for 2011 can write INMO 2012 directly without appearing for RMO 2011. Students from other regions should contact the respective regional coordionators.

Please note that the RMO is the first step in selecting the Indian team for the International Math Olympiad (IMO)! This requires special talent in problem-solving and interest in Mathematics. It is not meant for the average or even good student who does not have this knack.

Test centres in West Bengal are Balurghat, Bankura, Barasat, Berhampore, Burdwan, Contai, CoochBehar, Jalpaiguri, Kolkata, Kharagpur, Narendrapur, Purulia, Raiganj, Santiniketan and Siliguri. We would like to have at least one test centre in every district. Any help in this regard is welcome.
