On some atypical large sets of real number numbers involved in Diophantine approximation and geometry

Abstract

Winning sets of certain infinite games exhibit some properties of being "large" in certain ways, though they can be of zero Lebesgue measure. Such sets in fact occur in Diophantine approximation and also in the study of hyperbolic surfaces of finite (Riemannian) area. The talk will consist of an exposition of the ideas involved.
