My Present Project Title: Rough sets and Granular Computing to Image Processing Applications.
Objective Granular computing deals with computing with sets. Generally speaking, information granules are collections of entities that usually originate at the numeric level and are arranged together due to their similarity, functional adjacency, indistinguishability, coherency, or the like. It may be noted that, in image processing, after finding homogeneous regions (small homogeneous entities), each homogeneous region may be considered as a granule and thus granular computation becomes important. Secondly, since we may not be able to find boundaries of the homogeneous regions accurately, rough sets would naturally enter into calculation in terms of upper and lower approximations of the regions. Thus rough sets based granular computing becomes important for several real life applications involving images. The potential of the theory of rough sets will be exploited in the purview of granular computing. The literature in image processing in this regard is sparse. We would like to look at different aspects of image processing including segmentation, region growing, shape and object recognitions from the perspective of granular computing using rough sets. Project Starting on : April 2008. Project Ending on : March 2011.
