Awards received by Dr. Pal include
(i) National research fellowship by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India in 1991 and 1993, respectively
(ii) Student best paper award by the Computer Society of India in 1995.
(iii) Certificate of Merit by the Indian Science Congress Association in 1997.
(iv) CIMPA (International Center for Pure and Applied Mathematics) -UNESCO fellowship in 1993 to participate in a summer school on Man Machine interfaces in France.
(v) CIMPA-UNESCO-CHINA fellowship to participate in a school in China, in 1999.
(vi) Post Doctoral Fellowship from INRIA, France.
(vii) ICDAR Outstanding Young researcher award presented by Technical Committee-10 and Technical Committee-11 of International Association of Pattern Recognition for his significant impact in the research domain of Indian language Optical Character Recognition
(vii) Best paper award from the International Conference on Cognition and Recognition, 2005.
(viii) JSPS Fellowship from Japan government for collaborative work with Mie University, Japan, 2006-2007.
