Professor Pranab K. Sen, formerly Cary C. Boshamer Professor of Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, passed away at his home in Chapel Hill on 31 December, 2023. Professor Sen was one of the leading statisticians of the world, and has made seminal contributions in many areas including nonparametric statistics and biostatistics. He has received many important awards during his lifetime, and has been the author or coauthor of more than 600 research publications, as well as several books. He has also advised over 80 PhD students. He had very close academic ties with the Indian Statistical Institute, and was the Editor-in-Chief of Sankhya during 2008-2011.

The research emphasizes the heightened risk of congenital disorders and complications in offspring born to couples who are closely related, highlighting a public health concern. Their study has been published in the Scientific Reports Journal.

VISITING SCIENTIST POSITIONS IN PAMU
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the recruitment of two (02) Visiting Scientists purely on temporary basis to carry out full time collaborative research work with one or more Faculty Member(s) of the Physics and Applied Mathematics Unit (PAMU), Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. The candidates' field of research must have overlap with any of the thrust areas of research in PAMU, namely, Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Nonlinear Dynamics, High Energy Physics and Quantum Information.
