Image and video captioning is one of the fundamental problems in computer vision. If fact, it relates to automated scene understanding, which is sometimes dubbed as the *holy grail* of computer vision. The tutorial on image captioning will begin by an hour of lecture on neural net, convnet and recurrent neural net. This will be followed by a two-hour hands-on tutorial with python. In this hands-on part, first the participants will implement a simple recurrent neural net for image captioning. Next, the participants will look at the solutions of a more advanced recurrent net (LSTM) for the same image captioning problem. The participants will need Internet connection and is advised to have latest Anaconda distribution of python 2.7 installed. The tutorial can be run on Windows and Mac; however, the best platform is Ubuntu.

Limited seat, available on first come first serve basis. Registration prior to June 3, 2017 is necessary.
