About ISI:
Indian Statistical Institute, (ISI) is one of the most premier institutes of India. It has a long history of academic contributions in the field of Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Geology etc. It is spread across 6 centers and 5 smaller branches/offices in various cities of India. The main campus of ISI is located in the northern suburb of Kolkata.
The ISI Kolkata Campus, located at Baranagar - a northern suburb of Kolkata - is around 10 km from central district of Kolkata. It is located on busy Barrackpore Trunk Road (BT Road) between the Dunlop intersection and the Bon-Hoogly Intersection. The address of ISI academic campus is 203, BT Road, Kolkata 700035 and the address of ISI Guest House campus is 205, BT Road, Kolkata.
How To Reach ISI Kolkata Campus:
By Flight: If you are coming to Kolkata by flight, the best way to reach ISI Campus is to take a pre-paid taxi or OLA/Uber cab from the airport.
You can also avail local buses (AC-T2, D12, D4, AC-50A, D5, AC25, AC23A) or any other bus toward Bally-halt, Dankuni or Dunlop. To reach ISI you have two options
- Option1: Get down at Dunlop bus stop on the Belghoria Express Road. Once you walk down a flight of stairs, ISI main gate is about 10 minutes away. Sharing auto facility is also available from Dunlop intersection to Bon-Hoogly Intersection and costs around 10 rupees.
- Option2: Get down at Dakshineswar Bus stop. Take another bus (79, K4, AC54, C50, S32, S32A, S57) to ISI gate or Bon-Hoogly bus stop. Sharing auto facility is also available from Dakshineswar bus stop to Bon-Hoogly intersection and costs around 10 rupees.
By Train: If you are coming by train you will be getting down in one of the 4 train stations - Howrah, Sealdah, Shalimar or Kolkata Station.
- From Sealdah: Few buses like 230, 234 are usually available, but due to some road work currently going on, it is better to take a local train from Sealdah railway station. Take trains toward Dankuni (Dankuni local) or Baruipara (Baruipara local) and get down at Baranagar Road station, which is after the Dumdum junction. Baranagar Road station is at the Dunlop Intersection. Once you walk down a flight of stairs, ISI main gate is about 10 minutes away. Sharing auto facility is also available from Dunlop intersection to Bon-Hoogly Intersection and costs around 10 rupees.
- From Howrah: You may take buses (E32, C40, C45, Nimta Minibus). You have to get down at the bus stop ISI/Statistical (for the ISI academic campus) or at the Bonhooghly bus stop (for the ISI guest-house). Another option could be taking local trains till Bally station, and the buses are available from there till Dunlop bus stop, which is about 10 minutes walking form ISI main gate. Sharing auto facility is also available from Dunlop, costs around 10 rupees.
- From Shalimar station: The best option is to take a bus/shared auto to Howrah station and then use the above mentioned route.
- From Kolkata Station: Take the bus (S14C and S9A) to Bon-hoogly or ISI bus stop.
By Road: There are two bus stops on B.T, Road that serve ISI campus. The ISI bus stop is for the academic campus. And the Bon-hoogly bus stop is for the Guest house campus. There are a number of buses that ply on B.T.Road and serve ISI. There are also shared auto services from Dunlop and Barrackpore Intersection (in the north), Dakshineswar station and Bally station (in West), Sinthi Intersection (in South) and Noapara Metro station (in East).
By Metro: One of the best ways of reaching ISI from central or south Kolkata is to take the metro line to Noapara station (the terminal). Note that while some of the metro trains terminate at Dumdum station almost every other train will reach Noapara station. From Noapara station take a shared auto to Bon-hoogly Intersection.
