The Statistical Traineeship Programme of ISI is conducted every year by the Applied Statistics Unit. 

Objective and scope
The objective of this programme is to provide emerging statisticians with an opportunity to learn practical issues related to computer-based data analysis. It is a full-time course comprising directed reading, practical assignments and occasional lectures/demonstrations.

Duration
The duration of the programme is one academic year. 

Eligibility
Fresh master's degree holders in statistics are eligible for admission to the programme.

Selection Process
The announcement for the programme is sent to various universities along
with an application proforma. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of these applications are called for an interview. The final selection is made on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the interview as well as their academic records.

Course structure
The trainees are assigned to various faculty members for a limited priod. The faculty members give them various reading and data analysis assignments, and monitor the progress of their work. Lectures are also organized occasionally.  In the process, the trainees gather hands-on experience in statistical, graphical and other software.
