Membership categories, privileges, fees and application information
Membership Information
For membership (or access to the library), one has to submit proof of identity and a current residential address proof document to the In-charge of the Circulation Unit.
Proof of identity can be any current official document that provides your name, profession, course name and academic session (if applicable), along with the address of the Institute.
Proof of current residential address may include a voter card, current electricity bill, driving license, recent bank statement, pension book, etc.

Internal Membership
Free — Staff, Research Associates, Visiting Scientists, Research Scholars, Students, project-linked staff and office-bearers of the Institute are eligible for library membership without subscription fees. However, they have to apply for membership.
Open Learning / Temporary Membership
Fee-based — Available to users interested in consulting library documents and availing library services for a short period. The membership card is valid for 30 days, with provision for extension with permission.
External / Institutional Membership
Available to individuals with academic and research needs and to institutions or organizations. Membership is subject to approval by the Library Authority and applicable subscription fees and refundable security deposits.
ISI Society / Life Membership
Authorized members of the ISI Society Council are eligible for library membership by virtue of their Council membership. Life-members are exempted from the library subscription fee, subject to the applicable security deposit.

Library Hours
Except the four national holidays: 26 January, Holi-day, May Day, 15 August and 2 October.

* No subscription fee is applicable to ISI Staff members, Visiting Scientists, and Office Bearers of the ISI. A variety of entitlement is applicable to students, scholars, and faculties of the Institute.
# Institutional and Life-members are entitled to borrow a maximum of two (2) books at a time on payment of an interest-free security deposit only.
To get Life-membership one has to be a member of the “Society Council of ISI” for a lifetime.
